During the summer of 2025, SREC’s “Shaping Futures: Mental Health Leaders of Tomorrow” brought 20 rising high school seniors from across the state to LSU for a weeklong, immersive experience in mental health education and careers. These students explored professions in counseling, psychiatry, psychology, and social work — gaining hands-on exposure, meeting with experts in clinical and community settings, and discovering how they can be part of the solution to our state’s growing mental health needs.
Beyond the classroom, the program provided students with a genuine LSU experience—living on campus, engaging in team-building activities, and forming lifelong connections with peers who share their passion for helping others. By the end of the week, participants had grown not only in knowledge but also in confidence, purpose, and community.
