Funding

All admitted students in the Cain Department of Chemical Engineering are given financial support as teaching assistants, graduate research assistants, and/or through university fellowships. To ensure consideration for financial aid, all application materials should be submitted in accordance with deadlines established by the LSU Graduate School and our department.

Research & Teaching Assistantships

Assistantships for Ph.D. students start at $30,667, with a duration of appointment of five years. The first year is funded by the department and the following years are funded through faculty research projects sponsored by government or industry. The stipend amount for continuing students is reviewed by the faculty each year. In addition, graduate students are expected to complete at least two semesters of Teaching Assistantships in service to the department. Increases to assistantships are made periodically to reflect increases in university fees and cost of living expenses. These increases are made for incoming and existing students.

The Graduate School website contains the rules regulating graduate assistantships.

Fellowships & Other Financial Awards

Additional information about financial aid is available on both the Graduate School and College of Engineering websites.
