EPSCoR Graduate Research Fellowships
WIdening the Nation's STEM Workforce INside Louisiana
About "WIN-WIN"
The LSU EGFP program offers five fellowships in the fields of energy, environment, and sustainability in the Cain Department of Chemical Engineering in collaboration with the Department of Oceanography & Coastal Sciences. Fellows are encouraged to discuss their research ideas and interests with faculty. Examples of ongoing projects are water treatment, in silico design of catalysts, microplastics removal, the carbon circular economy, and sustainable biomanufacturing.
Fellows will have access to state-of-the-art facilities to support their research. LSU’s Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices will provide fellows with the unique opportunity to learn synchrotron-based x-ray characterization techniques without the time constraints at national laboratories. The LSU Nanofabrication Facility houses a multimodal scanning near-field optical microscopy capable of correlative nanoscopy. LSU’s shared instrument facility also houses a $7.5M double aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscope.
Fellows will join impactful research programs confronting pressing coastal and energy challenges to improve resilience and achieve ambitious energy efficiency and independence goals. Fellows will be trained by highly qualified mentors with both emerging and long-running records of mentorship excellence with novel research projects across coastal sciences and chemical engineering fields. To facilitate synergy across projects and foster innovative partnerships, Fellows will participate in WIN-WIN Convergence Workshops focused on developing novel solutions to coastal and energy issues that will define the next generation of coastal scientists and chemical engineers. WIN-WIN will prepare Fellows for post-graduation advancement by emphasizing holistic student training through personalized mentorship plans that foster mental wellness, academic excellence, and career development. Accordingly, Fellows will be primed for success upon graduation.
